Our Team

Richard Tyson—Director of SCITT, Director of Teaching School and Assistant Headteacher at Bennett Memorial Diocesan School.

Richard was involved with the creation of the SCITT and oversees the strategic direction of the programme and the SCITT’s continued expansion. In addition, he leads the Altius Teaching School Alliance on behalf of Bennett and is an Assistant Headteacher there too. Richard’s background in teaching began as a history teacher and he can still occasionally be found teaching history today.

 

Laura Purser—Operations Director, SCITT and Teacher of Computing at Bennett Memorial Diocesan School.

Laura is responsible for the day to day operational running of the SCITT training programme and supporting its strategic developments. She manages the trainees’ professional development and placements, oversees their assessment and evaluation, provides mentor training and support, ongoing support for NQTs during their induction year. Laura is also involved with developing the Assessment Only provision for the SCITT and overseeing AO applications. She joined Bennett Memorial in September 2011 as Head of Computing and continues to enjoy teaching computing lessons.

 

Carol Hughes—Administration Manager, SCITT.

Carol joined the SCITT in December 2016 as it was launching to develop and create the structures it currently works within, and continues to ensure procedures are developed and compliant as the SCITT expands. On a day to day basis, Carol is responsible for the administration of the SCITT and oversees the recruitment, induction, compliance and marketing for new trainees, those interested in becoming a trainee, or those pursuing the Assessment Only route. Carol’s background is in HR Management and she has also worked with schools in an HR consultancy role.

 

Kelda Dublon and Louise Benford – Administration Assistants, SCITT.

Kelda joined the team in June 2020 to support the administration of the expanding SCITT, having previously worked in the events industry working on conferences and exhibitions.

Louise was welcomed to the team in May 2021 as the SCITT continues to expand and she has a background in marketing communications and administration.

Both are available as a point of contact for anyone interested in training to teach with Teach Kent & Sussex, or one of our lead schools.  They provide administration support across areas including recruitment activity, onboarding of new trainees, marketing, professional development, school experience and current trainee activity.
