The practicalities of applying to train to teach with Teach Kent & Sussex:

You will need to apply online through the UCAS website:

To help you find our teacher training places: go to ‘2. Finding a training programme’ and click on ‘find training programme starting in (year)’

Under the ‘search for a training provider’ box type for:

i) Primary teacher training: ‘Teach Kent & Sussex’ or Claremont Primary School, Tunbridge Wells.

ii) Secondary teacher training: ‘Teach Kent & Sussex’ or Bennett Memorial Diocesan School or Wealden Partnership.

What do we look for in applicants?

We are looking for people who are ambitious, determined and willing to work hard to make a difference to the lives of young people. You will need to be willing to go the extra mile to secure academic progress for every child whilst playing a role in shaping their resilience and character. You will need to be committed to sharing our vision that great teaching transforms the life opportunities of all students.

You will need a high standard of literacy, numeracy and personal presentation. At interview candidates will need to discuss their reflections on school visits and/or school based work experience.

In order to be eligible to apply to train as a teacher you must have:

  • A UK undergraduate degree
  • A standard equivalent to a grade C in GCSE English and maths.

If you studied outside of the UK, you should visit the National Academic Recognition Centre (NARIC) website to find out whether your qualifications are of an equivalent level to UK GCSEs, A levels and an undergraduate degree.

All candidates for teaching training also need to pass literacy and numeracy professional skills tests before starting teacher training.

Teach Kent & Sussex and all of our partner schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff, trainees and volunteers to share this commitment. All teacher training posts are subject to a satisfactory DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) enhanced check.
